Module Description: 

This one-hour module provides an overview of interpreters and their role when working with adults in educational settings or career training environments. In this module, you will increase your knowledge and understanding of interpreters as qualified and trained professionals, what to expect when working with an interpreter(s), interpreting teams, and interpreter ethics. The information in this module will provide you with a foundation for hiring and securing qualified sign language interpreters while centering the communication preferences of the deaf person.

 

Learning Objectives - Participants will be able to:

    • Describe what to look for in qualified interpreters and where to find them.

    • Explain the roles, responsibilities, and common practices of interpreters

    • Identify practices and strategies that are person-centered when addressing requests for interpreters
