Webinar Description:

HIPAA is an important law that protects everyone's privacy in medical care. So why are some universities using HIPAA to deny communication access? This session will discuss misunderstandings that have led to denial of access and how to remedy such confusion for everyone's benefit.

Webinar Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the unique challenges and barriers faced by deaf students in accessing accommodations within postsecondary education settings.
  • Learn strategies for incorporating a student-centered approach into the accommodation process for deaf students, including effective communication methods and proactive support mechanisms.
  • Explore how to reframe accommodation processes through an equity lens to ensure equitable access and participation for deaf students in all aspects of campus life.
